Research Performance Reports

THE RESEARCH ASSESSMENT EXERCISE TO ANALYZE AND COMPARE PERFORMANCE

The RPR and the new RPR+ enable UK higher education institutions (HEIs) to analyse and compare their performance in the Research Assessment Exercise 2008 (RAE2008) with up-to-date research impact data from the Thomson Reuters Web of KnowledgeSM.

You can compare your institution with up to three other HEIs in a given Unit of Assessment (UoA). This can help institutions and research departments prepare their research strategies for the forthcoming Research Excellence Framework in 2014 (REF 2014).

The RPR enables an examination of an HEI’s research performance, and allows an analysis and comparison of the impact of its research with the RAE2008 grade outcomes. The Report also includes an Impact Profile® which goes beyond conventional averages and reports on the entire distribution of citation impact. An institution can compare its submissions by journals and by Web of ScienceSM journal categories, which allows an understanding of the relative research specialisms of an institution’s research.

The RPR+ includes not only the RPR content but also Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) data. This allows an extended analysis of research papers and citation impact data from the Thomson Reuters Web of KnowledgeSM with relevant PhD and research income data from HESA.

Together, RPR and RPR+ provide a means to gain a rapid overview of the research strengths of any HEI in a UoA compared with that of its selected peers. These Reports are an invaluable tool for those wishing to assess their RAE2008 research performance and for those responsible for the preparation of their institution’s submissions to the REF 2014.
