- What is the ResearcherID Download Service?
Part of ResearcherID Web Services, ResearcherID Download is a subscription-based web service that gives an entitled institution the ability to download publication and profile data for their researchers from the ResearcherID database.
In order to download information, the researcher needs to "associate" with the institution by one of two methods: 1.) Via the researcher profile/publication list created by ResearcherID Upload; or 2.) By having the researcher's account manually associated using the ResearcherID support utility.
- What are the benefits of ResearcherID Download?
ResearcherID Download easily allows an institution to download publications for all researchers at their institution who are members of ResearcherID.
- Who will use this service?
Academic administrators and librarians are the primary audience; however, the service would need to be implemented by someone proficient with XML database structure and web service protocols, and experienced in computer programming. Though this service will benefit individual researchers, it is not intended to be managed or implemented by them. It is meant for administrators who have the authority and access to perform batch downloads of institution-wide data.
- How do I get access to ResearcherID Download?
The ResearcherID Download service is a subscription product. You may request access to the ResearcherID Download via researchanalytics.thomsonreuters.com/scientific/info/ridweb_download. You will then be contacted by a Thomson Reuters representative.
- Can you provide an overview of the service?
1. Once your registration has been accepted for this service, we will provide you with technical documentation containing instructions on how to make a download request.
— Your download request should include:
• User name and password (for authentication purposes)
• Type of request (profiles, publication, both)
• Optional: List of ResearcherID numbers or list of EmployeeID numbers
• The service responds to you with a job ticket number.2. You can check the status of the download request at a URL which will be provided in technical documentation we will send once you are entitled
— The request includes the job ticket number.
— The service checks to see the current status of the request.
— If the request runs to completion, the service will return the status code of DONE, as well as the URL where the file can be retrieved, and, if necessary, a message about the job (i.e., if there were any errors in processing)Note: If you have made both a publication and profile request, the DONE status code will not be returned until both requests are completed. Each request type will have its own file URL and (if applicable) messages.
3. You will copy and paste the file location URL into your web browser to get the download data.
Note: The file will only be stored on the server for a period of 10 business days.

- What happens if a researcher is already associated with another ResearcherID upload institution and therefore does not appear in the download file (such as if the researcher has recently moved)?
Contact Global Customer Support at science.thomsonreuters.com/support to request that an update to the employeeID and the name of the uploading institution be made to the researcher's profile data in ResearcherID.
- Is there a way for an institution to associate an already-registered end-user with their institution without use of ResearcherID Upload?
Contact Global Customer Support at science.thomsonreuters.com/support to request adding the employeeID and the name of the uploading institution to the researcher's profile data in ResearcherID.
- If an administrator has uploaded data for many institutions, is it possible to perform a download for all of them?
Yes, this is possible, but the administrator will only receive data for those accounts that he created (that is, where the sponsor name associated with the account equals the name of the administrator institution).
- Is a Web of Science subscription required to use ResearcherID Download?
ResearcherID and Web of Science are mutually exclusive. A customer does not have to be a Web of Science subscriber to use ResearcherID Web Services. Subscribers to ResearcherID Download will receive profile and publication data, including times cited and UT's where applicable.
- What is the current version of the service?
ResearcherID Download version v1.3 was released in November 2009.
- What is the length of a subscription?
Subscriptions are for a twelve month period starting at any time.
- When an administrator performs a download, sometimes they do not get back all the author names associated with an article. Why does this happen?
If an article was added prior to July 2009, ResearcherID only displays three of the author names associated with the article. To amend this, the end user must delete the article from their ResearcherID profile and then either manually add it or have the administrator re-upload it.
- If an institution has already done a download and then wishes to do an update, do they have to download all the data associated with their profiles or can they simply append articles added since the last download? If so, how is this done?
Currently, the system downloads all of the data. A future enhancement will allow the administrator to select the date range for data they wish to have returned.
